About this event
October Public Meeting: Christopher Birch - Cruising the Bahamas Blues. What to know before you go!
The dream of sailing from the East Coast to The Bahamas for a winter in paradise is attainable. New Englander, Christopher Birch, is a veteran of three seasons cruising this iconic island chain. His talk will help you understand what to expect about both the destination and the trip there and back. Factual details about The Bahamas, its weather patterns, regional differences, demographics, and navigational challenges will be shared. You’ll hear advice on seasonal timing, provisioning, route planning and pre-trip boat preparation. You’ll also learn about the experience of living inside the cruising culture and interacting with the Bahamian people. Time will be set aside at the end for Q&A.
Christopher Birch has logged over 90K miles at sea as captain. He serves as a contributing editor at SAIL Magazine and is the author of the Boston Harbor Currents column in Points East Magazine. Chris is the founder of Birch Marine Inc. on Long Wharf in Boston and is now out voyaging full-time with his wife, Alex, aboard their 36’ Morris Justine.
