Hugh Blair-Smith, General Meeting 2016 May 26

Hugh Blair-Smith is an avid sailor who combined his knowledge of navigation with a career developing hardware and software at MIT for the Apollo moon ship and Space Shuttle flight computers. Hugh will be speaking at the Pelagic Sailing Club on Thursday May 26th, primarily about an extraordinarily fortunate (though motorized) naturalists’ cruise to all the outermost islands of Scotland that you never heard of, plus a short glimpse of his 41-year love affair with his 35’ sloop, cruising the New England coast. He will also bring for inspection his newly published book, Left Brains for the Right Stuff: Computers, Space, and History, which sounds technical but provides a highly accessible inside story of what the space race meant to the world, to the nation, and to himself.

Pelagic Sailing Club Meetings are free and open to all and held upstairs at the Savin Hill Yacht Club, 400 William T Morrissey Boulevard, Dorchester, MA. Social hour begins with the arrival of pizza at 6:30 PM, followed by the meeting . Drinks are available from the first-floor yacht club bar.
