Crew

  • Are you an experienced sailor interested in cruising, but can’t find a berth?
  • Would you like to sail from Cape Ann to Boston Harbor or around Cape Cod?
  • Perhaps cruise for a week or more in the New England waters, or beyond?
  • Would you like to experience a variety of sailboats or visit new sailing grounds?
  • Preparing to charter or to purchase your own boat?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these, then

The Pelagic Sailing Club is Your Solution!

Pelagic Sailing Club boat owners are interested in crew like you! Their boats are located in harbors from Maine to Rhode Island. Skippers want experienced and qualified crew because they sail almost every weekend and need crew for day sails, weekends, and for extended cruises to places to places such as Nova Scotia, Florida, the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. Often the fall may be spent helping a boat through the intercoastal waterway. Skippers are looking experienced crew, not only for companionship but for safety under way. Skippers look for crew who know how to sail, how to trim sails, steer, navigate and assist in docking and mooring. As crew you’ll be expected to help with boat maintenance, and enjoy a good sail.  To become part of the Pelagic Sailing Club’s Family, get started by requesting your application here!

To that end, each crew applicant needs to complete three evaluation sails with someone who has been a member for at least one year. If you are a member who is going to evaluate an applicant, or a crew applicant about to be evaluated, or anyone else (for that matter), you can download the evaluation form here.

I sailed with Pelagic from 1999 to 2004 out of Marbelehead with someone named Sandy and then Jamestown and Beverly. I married a sailor who had a Cape Dory and Bristol and then sailed out off Portsmouth RI until late summer when husband passed away. Looking to get back to day sailing. I’ve had many happy memories with crew members and boat captains I met through Pelagic. Thank you.

I grew up sailing on Cape Cod at Stone Horse Yacht Club sailing and crewing J22s and 24s. I can easily sail Turnabouts, Sunfish, hobie-cat 16 and 18s as well as opti’s and solings. I’m now a 42 married father of three kids, 12, 11 and 10. I’m looking to purchase a boat in the near future, but would really like to get involved with some local sailing to refresh as well as sail on as many different types of boats as possible. My goal is to purchase a race/crusier and sail to Nantucket and/ or MV for a couple weekends with my family. I have looked into the local sailing classes but they are ridiculously expensive, and I know I can get the quality experience am looking for with experienced local sailors. I’m hard working and more then willing to apply as much elbow grease it takes to get the job done. I’m an easy going Sales Professional with a hectic work week that consists of work travel, but I am available on all weekends and some select weekdays (especially starting in June with the start of a new fiscal year).
I look forward to speaking with anyone who is looking for a dependable, coachable crew member.
